Antivirus

This one is easy, antivirus software is available to students, faculty, and staff.  Just visit downloads.its.psu.edu to download it and other great software.

Back up

FreeAgent 250GB portable hard drivePair a great external hard drive with back up software built into your operating system, and backing up all your files, photos, music, and movies is a piece of cake. 

Mac OS X offers a utility called Time Machine and Windows 7 offers the Backup and Restore Center.  Point those utilities to an external hard drive (or network drive), tell it what files to backup, and let it go to work.

Laptops pose a high risk of theft, some tools to combat theft are laptop locks and/or theft recovery software.

LoJack is a piece of software that tracks a stolen laptop once it gets connected to the Internet.LoJack for Laptops

Laptop locks are a great tool for securing your laptop in your dorm room or when leaving it unattended.
